Hi there! I’m Madeline, a Chicago-based arts + culture communicator.

About me

I’m Madeline, a Chicago-based creator + communicator from the Mitten State. I studied creative advertising at Michigan State University and currently work as the Communications and Outreach Manager at DePaul Art Museum in lovely Lincoln Park. I love using design and communications to foster positive change and help people. I enjoy challenging myself and others to do better, even if it means dissecting and rewriting a single tweet until it’s just right.

I grew up in a tiny town in Michigan's Upper Peninsula where I dreamed of being a world-famous fashion designer and/or elementary school art teacher. Fast forward ten years, I moved to "the city" to study at MSU. There I discovered my love for all things design and took home the "Best in Show" student Addy award for a hot sauce campaign—I've never smiled that big. The following year, I drove across the country with seven other talented students to make a documentary about how creativity connects us. You can watch that here. Around the same time, Eli and Edythe Broad enlisted Zaha Hadid to build an art museum at MSU. I quickly landed a job as a design intern and worked my way up to Creative Director before heading off to start a new chapter in the windy city.

I love mac + cheese, hunting for vintage treasures, discovering new music, and exploring the Midwest. I'm currently obsessed with the color mustard. I still can't swim underwater without plugging my nose, but I'm learning to accept my faults and celebrate my strengths.

Thanks for stopping by.

Kind words

Maddie is the employee every manager dreams of. I wish I could clone her. She has an incredible work ethic, is truly detail-oriented (everyone says they are, but she actually is), meets deadlines, and does it all with a good attitude. Her best attribute is having the drive and curiosity to propose new ideas. She helps our department and our institution to evolve. Maddie’s creative spirit inspires me. She is both endlessly curious and a dedicated people-pleaser. Her passion for her work shows in everything she does and she treats every project, no matter the scale, with care and enthusiasm. I’m thankful for her hard work every day.
— Whitney Stoepel, Comms. Manager, United States Artists
Maddie is one of my favorite people to work with. She is great at sharing and supporting her ideas while also being highly receptive to feedback and different perspectives. This style of collaboration was exactly what I needed professionally, and I cannot thank her enough for exemplifying how to simultaneously stand up for your work while welcoming feedback and implementing changes. Maddie’s expertise and attention to detail are unmatched to almost anyone I have met. Her dedication to brand standards and voice really inspired me. Perhaps the best quality about Maddie—and why I would work with her again in a heartbeat—is her ability to adapt and turn things around on a tight deadline, all while learning new things. Better yet, she doesn’t just meet the expectation, she exceeds them. Anyone that has the opportunity to work with her should.
— Brittany Holmes, Digital Comms. Specialist, Public Advocates
I’ve worked with Maddie on a few occasions where I needed some materials designed for events and one where I asked her to contribute an original artwork to my Democracy Print Series which raises funds for nonprofits. She has always been such a pleasure to work with, understood what I wanted quickly, and delivered exceptional, beautiful work.
